The WordCamp Montclair organizing team is in the final steps of getting WordCamp Montclair 2018 confirmed on the WordCamp Central calendar and a date locked in. We should know more in a few weeks and have an official announcement.

The tentative dates right now (may change) are:

Friday, October 5, 2018 (9-5PM)
Saturday, October 6, 2018 (9-5PM)

Or:

Saturday, October 6, 2018 (9-5PM)
Sunday, October 7, 2018 (1PM-6PM)

WordPress Class Survey

The WordPress North NJ Meetup organizers are looking to determine if there is interest in attending specialized classes for instruction in WordPress techniques and technologies. We have come up with a selection of approximately 30 individual classes, each taught by someone expert in the topic.

Classes will range from beginner to advanced topics and be an 60 to 90 minutes in length. Cost for the classes are expected to be between $20 to $30 per class per attendee. The classes will be given at the Laptop Upcycle room in the Montclair United Way building – the same place we have our Meetups.

You can help us by choosing the 10 most interesting classes you would be willing to attend and pay for. We can use this feedback to work on a schedule of classes for the immediate future. Our plan is to make this a continuous effort if it proves popular with the WordPress North NJ Meetup community.

I walked in there yesterday expecting some advice on how to proceed with a few challenges in my e-commerce site. My goal was to purchase a domain and ssl and get some pointers on how to migrate my existing application to the new host. I'd like to personally thank Ariel Tolome for helping me set up it all up. From my research I had expected to pay about $120 for a year of hosting and SSL using bluehost. Ariel introduced me to Namecheap, we registered the site in Cloudflare and added crucial plugins like WordFence and WP Optimize. We got my page loading time optimized from about 6 seconds down to 1.4s. I walked in at 7pm with a slow non-secure staged site. I got home at 9.30 pm with my site fully migrated, secure and super fast. The cost of all this..... $20.01!!!! Cameron, you and your team are Great!!

So...I walk into a room full of complete strangers, and a seasoned WordPress professional comes over to sit at my side and do and explain all kinds of highly technical and complicated things on my site that I couldn't possibly figure out on my own in 10K years. I can't thank you, and specifically Cameron, enough!!! And did I mention that this meeting was completely free? This group perfectly exemplifies the very best that "old school," non-commercialized Meetup has to offer: a community of people giving freely to each other.
